Each piece of furniture is different and there are a few ways to re upholster it, either traditionally or modern.
You will learn about stripping, webbing, stitching, filling, how to do basic repairs. You will be using traditional Horse hair or coir and the waddings or the more modern foam. You may also use springs.
You will learn how to both hand and machine stitch and attach decorative trims.
I will teach you how to use the tools of the upholstery trade in a safe and useful way and learn how to assess how much fabric is required to complete your project.
You will need to bring to the workshop a piece of furniture that you wish to upholster, it can be a small chair, a box, or something larger. You can bring to the workshop something that you either have at home or that you purchase especially for the workshop.
Some tools are provided in class, but it is helpful if you could get together some basic things that you may need. You should get yourself a small toolbox so that your things are kept safe and in one place, and for the people without a mobile phone or a phone with no camera please also bring to class a camera.
1. Can we store furniture?
It is unusual that the locations have facilities to store your project, so you should remember that you will have to fetch it to class each week. Please make sure that you have the transport and that you are able to lift your piece, however other people are always on hand to help.
